EFES and MP Bike-to-School Dates

May is Bike-to-Work and School Month and the Bay State Bike Week is May 14-20. The East Falmouth Elementary School is celebrating Bike-to-School Month on Friday, May 18. That day, Mr. Hauptmann (4th grade teacher), along with other teachers and volunteers, will bike to school with students from Menauhant Beach. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ride with their child. Mr. Hauptmann will meet students at the beach at 8:00am and lead a “bike train” up Davisville Road to the school. To ensure rider safety, volunteers will ride ahead of the bike train to make sure all major intersections are safe to cross. Students who live along Davisville Road can join the bike train as it passes their street. Once at the school, all riders will enjoy a light breakfast (provided by Pie in the Sky and the East Falmouth Elementary School PTO) of pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee before starting their day. Anyone who rides that day, either from Menauhant Beach or elsewhere, will be eligible for prizes such as t-shirts, helmets, bicycle lights, and other cool bike related items. At the end of the day we will ride back to the beach, where students can meet their parents at approximately 4:00pm. Residents of the Davisville Road area are encouraged to stand out in their front yards before and after school to cheer on all of the riders.

The Morse Pond School (grades 5 and 6) is planning a Bike-to-School Day on Friday, May 25. Students can meet fellow riders at Trunk River, Old Dock Road, or the Green Pond Yacht Club at 7:15am and ride to school with teachers and other volunteers. Once at the school, all riders will enjoy a light breakfast provided by Pie in the Sky and the Morse Pond School PTO.

Both of these fun events are presented by Bike Falmouth, in partnership with MassBikes.

The second way students and teachers are celebrating Bike-to-School Month is an incentive program that rewards students and teachers who commute to school by bike. Students who ride their bikes to school are eligible for prizes.
