Help EFES Win a Bike Corral

Help me win some much needed bicycle parking for the East Falmouth Elementary School. We have a growing number of bike commuters, but no designated bicycle parking. Our school is one of eight organizations in the running for a Saris bike corral. Voting continues until midnight tomorrow (May 30th), so use the link below and LIKE the Saris page first, then click on the Bike Corral Contest photo. EFES is listed as one of the finalists. We are currently in 2nd place, but only by a couple of votes. You can only vote once so share the page with your friends once you have voted. Thank you!

EFES Bike-to-School Day!

The East Falmouth Elementary School Bike-to-School Day was a huge success! It was hard to get an exact count, but we had approximately 140 kids and 75 adult riders! A huge "Thank You" to all the volunteers who helped make this happen!

Join us next Friday, May 25 for Morse Pond's Bike-to-School Day!

EFES and MP Bike-to-School Dates

May is Bike-to-Work and School Month and the Bay State Bike Week is May 14-20. The East Falmouth Elementary School is celebrating Bike-to-School Month on Friday, May 18. That day, Mr. Hauptmann (4th grade teacher), along with other teachers and volunteers, will bike to school with students from Menauhant Beach. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ride with their child. Mr. Hauptmann will meet students at the beach at 8:00am and lead a “bike train” up Davisville Road to the school. To ensure rider safety, volunteers will ride ahead of the bike train to make sure all major intersections are safe to cross. Students who live along Davisville Road can join the bike train as it passes their street. Once at the school, all riders will enjoy a light breakfast (provided by Pie in the Sky and the East Falmouth Elementary School PTO) of pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee before starting their day. Anyone who rides that day, either from Menauhant Beach or elsewhere, will be eligible for prizes such as t-shirts, helmets, bicycle lights, and other cool bike related items. At the end of the day we will ride back to the beach, where students can meet their parents at approximately 4:00pm. Residents of the Davisville Road area are encouraged to stand out in their front yards before and after school to cheer on all of the riders.

The Morse Pond School (grades 5 and 6) is planning a Bike-to-School Day on Friday, May 25. Students can meet fellow riders at Trunk River, Old Dock Road, or the Green Pond Yacht Club at 7:15am and ride to school with teachers and other volunteers. Once at the school, all riders will enjoy a light breakfast provided by Pie in the Sky and the Morse Pond School PTO.

Both of these fun events are presented by Bike Falmouth, in partnership with MassBikes.

The second way students and teachers are celebrating Bike-to-School Month is an incentive program that rewards students and teachers who commute to school by bike. Students who ride their bikes to school are eligible for prizes.

EFES Bike-to-School Day 2012

Have you ever thought about riding your bike to school? Bay State Bike Week is May 14-20, and the East Falmouth Elementary School is celebrating Bike-to-School Month on Friday, May 18. That day, Mr. Hauptmann (4th grade teacher), along with other teachers and volunteers, will bike to school with students from Menauhant Beach. Parents and guardians are encouraged to join us. Mr. Hauptmann will meet students at the beach at 8:00am and lead a “bike train” up Davisville Road to the school. To ensure rider safety, volunteers will ride ahead of the bike train to stop traffic at all major intersections. Students who live along Davisville Road can join the bike train as it passes their street. Once at the school, all riders will enjoy a light breakfast of pastries, fruit, juice, and coffee before starting their day. This fun event is presented by Bike Falmouth, in partnership with MassBikes.

If you would like to volunteer, either by riding with us on Bike-to-School Day, or assisting with the breakfast at the school, please email Mr. Hauptmann at jhauptmann@falmouth.k12.ma.us.

The second way we are celebrating Bike-to-School Month is an incentive program that rewards students and teachers who commute to school by bike. If you ride your bike to school anytime during the month of May, let Mr. Hauptmann know, and he will give you a prize. The more you ride, the more prizes you will receive.

Ride The Divide Movie Trailer from Ride The Divide on Vimeo.

Bike Falmouth is trying to raise enough money to buy new bike racks for the East Falmouth School. I'm considering hosting a screening of Ride The Divide, which is an award-winning film about a 2700 mile long mountain bike race along the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. Anyone know any venues in Woods Hole or Falmouth that might be able to seat 100-200 people? Anyone want to help me try to pull thing thing off?
